Mutrah Fish Market - Muscat - Oman
Project: Oman Fish Market
Final client: Municipality of Muscat, Oman
Duration of project: January to November 2013
In Muscat, the capital of Oman, a new fish market is being built. The Norwegian architectural firm Snohetta (www.snoarc.no) created the design for this. The roof structure consists of a web of 2D and 3D-bent 219.1 and 273.1 mm tubes, under which are suspended aluminium strips as a sun screen.
Van Rijsoort had a unique position in this commission. The complete package of engineering, rolling, marking and finishing processes, such as the cutting to size and the application of welding edges, as well as the transportation of 1,300 metres of Ø273 mm tube and 2,900 metres of Ø219 mm tube was done by us. On the building site in Sohar, we provide technical support in the erection of the roof and we deliver all associated tube connections, contour-cut tubes and mitre-sawn tube ends.
The rolling work has taken place in both 2D and 3D forms. For marking out the tubes, Van Rijsoort has built a marking unit that will mark out the tubes fully automatically under computer control. As well as a technical tour de force, this is an asset for us, allowing us to work ever more accurately and efficiently in future projects and thus supply even better quality.
